What is the Robotics Institute Summer Scholars Program?

The Robotics Institute Summer Scholars program is a new summer internship program for Junior and Senior university students. Interns will have a chance to work on state-of-the-art research projects at Carnegie Mellon’s world-renowned Robotics Institute. Interns will be assigned to work with faculty members who fit their area of interest. Projects will come from a wide variety of sub-fields in robotics including (but not limited to!) mobile robotics, computer vision, machine learning, robot navigation, autonomy, humanoid robotics, human-robot interaction, multi-robot systems, graphics, and mechanical design. We also expect to host some special activities for the Summer Scholars.

How do I participate?

Signing up is easy:
Upload a single PDF that gives a statement of purpose explaining why you’d like to participate, a CV/Resume to: Student Upload

You’ll also need a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows you well. They must upload the recommendation letter in PDF form to: Faculty Upload

Deadline: Recommendations, CV and statement must be into the website by February 28, 2008.

Is the internship paid?

The Robotics Institute will accept the highest quality students. We expect in many cases that the internship will be paid by the faculty member assigned to you, but you should indicate on your application if you are able to provide your own funding.

When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?

[NEW] Admission will be rolling this year based on the availability of faculty sponsors. We expect most scholars will receive informal notification near the end of March or beginning of April from the faculty member who you will be working with. An official invitation from the University will follow.

When does the internship happen?

This can be negotiated with the faculty member who you will be working with, but nominally the internships will take place between May 27 and August 21.
