Before I came to CMU I was in Bangalore, India. But I am originally from Cochin, in the beautiful state of Kerala. Check out this National Geographic article that rates Kerala among the top 50 must-see spots of the millenium. I grew up in a number of cities - New Delhi, Bombay, Cochin, Madras and Bangalore being a prominent few. While I never really got time to make lasting friendships I did get to see a whole lot of places!
My undergraduate years were spent in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Anna University in Madras. Four years of the awfully hot Madras weather was made bearable thanks to the wonderfully nutritious bread-omelettes at Mulla's[1], samosas at the Night Canteen[2].
In 1999 I finally graduated and returned to the wonderfully pleasant climes of Bangalore to join the Hardware Design Group at IBM Global Services. After a few months in Bangalore I went to IBM Austin to work with the RS/6000 Group there. Since Fall 2000 I am in the graduate program of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in CMU.
Despite popular perception, Pittsburgh
certainly isnt a dirty, grimy steel town. It was, but not anymore.
I actually even like the place (so sue me), mainly because I find it much
easier to tolerate very cold weather than very hot weather. Pittsburgh
winters maybe a bit harsh but I'm not complaining (yet)! And the people
are pretty friendly too, once you can figure out Pittsburghese.
[1] An integral part
of the life of any AU or IIT-M guy. If you dont know what the acronyms
are, this part really isnt for you.
[2]. The place where
AU guys congregate in an effort to raise the levels of their otherwise
non-existent social life.
