How to READ a Hangul Web page on IBM PC (06/11/97)
o It shows a method to READ Hangul on Netscape or MS Internet Explorer (IE) on PC
Windows 95 & NT 4.0 (English Version)
- If you have a Korean Windows, you don't need this method.
(0) I assume you already have Netscape or MS Internet Explorer
(English version 3.01 or later).
I checked Netscape 3.0, and it doesn't work with Hangul.
- Do not receive the Korean version of the navigator unless you have
Korean Windows 95/NT.
E-mail on a UNIX workstation at the
Computer Cluster (Wean Hall 5200ÂÊ) :
Run 'Netscape Mail', 'simeon', 'pine' (POP3) or, 'ezmail'
Use Netscape Mail, MS Outlook Express, Mulberry, Eudora, or Pine (POP3 mail clients)
(0) There are two mail server for andrew account. One is Andrew Mail Server,
and another is Cyrus server. Andrew Mail Server (old default) does not support POP3 mail.
So, you have to change your mail server to use a POP3 (or IMAP) mail program.
- Log into a Sun or a DEC machine (andrew machine, for example, 'telnet unix22.andrew.cmu.edu')
and type "convertmail" at the prompt. The program will give you instructions as to how to proceed.
(2) Check the option in your local mail program.
Change the option for POP3 server to 'cyrus.andrew.cmu.edu'.

Reason for Hangul Mail Problem
o Sometimes you may receive a Hangul mail which seems to be broken.
But, it may not actually broken data.
It may be a CODE problem, and may be recovered by proper decoding.
o E-mail does not guarantee 8 bit data transfer.
A Hangul message sent in 8 bit code such as KS-WanSungHyung can be broken,
and may not be recovered.
o There are several different Korean code such as
KS-WanSungHyung code, KS-JoHapHyung code, ISO code, SP code, base64 code, ...
o Most Hangul mail is coded in ISO or base64 coding (7 bit), and your Hangul
viewer may display KS-WanSungHyung code (8 bit) only. So, you need to convert
ISO code into KS code. Use a code conversion program in the following section.
(cvt8.exe, hcode.exe)
