Computer Science is more than mere machines and code; it is a means for understanding the world, and a method for changing it.
Note: THIS WEBSITE IS OUT-DATED. I have now moved to a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University. My new webpage is http://www.stat.cmu.edu/~shanneke/. You should be automatically forwarded, or you can manually go there by clicking here.
Prior to this, I studied for my B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and pursued research on semi-supervised machine learning with Prof. Dan Roth and other students in the Cognitive Computation Group. Prior to that, I studied Computer Science at Webster University in St. Louis, MO, where I played around with neural networks and classic AI a bit. When I have time between classes and research, I enjoy reading books on science, pure mathematics, technology, and philosophy, and occasionally find time for hiking and camping. I've also been known to tinker with computer clusters. Click the links at the top of the page to navigate to another section.
