VASC Seminar Announcement ========================= Date: Monday, 7/3/00 Time: 3:45-4:45 Place: NSH 3002 Speaker: Jean-Sebastien Samson Ecole Polytechnique, France CMU Robotics Institute Title: Single View Modeling Abstract: Many fields of computer science use accurate three-dimensional models. Various modeling techniques have been developed to construct such models from images but most require multiple images. The purpose of single view modeling is to reconstruct a texture-mapped 3D model from a still image such as a painting or photograph. Previous single view modeling methods allowed the user to extract lengths from one image using a rough model of the scene. I will present a new method to directly reconstruct point coordinates from a single uncalibrated image. Furthermore, very few techniques exist for modeling curved surfaces from a single view. I will present a method to reconstruct 3D models of curved surfaces from a single image. The method provides important functionalities such as fast computation and modeling discontinuities. This project is the result of joint work with Steve Seitz.
