These libraries will profoundly impact the conduct of business of business, professional, and personal activity. The Informedia Digital Video Library Project is developing new technologies for data storage, search, and retrieval, and embedding them in a video library system for use in education, training, sports and entertainment. The new digital video library technology allows more independent, self-motivated access to information for self-teaching and exploration, which can bring about a revolutionary improvement in the way education and training are delivered. We will give an interactive demonstration of the Informedia Digital Video Library Project. We will show how an intelligent user interface and a variety of multimedia understanding techniques combine to give easy access to a database of over 1000 hours of news and educational video. We will also talk about the lessons learned and the challenges ahead.
