I'm currently an independent software engineer living in the general vicinity of Silicon Valley and working on my own websites and programming projects.

I grew up in Torrance, a coastal suburb of Los Angeles. I was an undergrad in physics and computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, otherwise known as "Cal". In 2002 I received my Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science; my research was focused on machine learning.

My wife Misty is a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering working as a contractor for NASA Ames Research Center. As of June 2008 we have one baby boy.
