 2178) ARGONNE ACQUIRES FIRST IBM 128-PROCESSOR SCALABLE SYSTEM     109 Lines
    Argonne, Ill. -- IBM and the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National
 Laboratory Wednesday announced a three-year cooperative research and
 development agreement to advance the use of parallel processing in both
 commercial and scientific environments. The two plan to develop new parallel
 computing applications for industry, academia and government.

 2179) SUPERCOMPUTING CENTERS TO COLLABORATE ON GRAND CHALLENGES     48 Lines
    Pittsburgh, Penn -- The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and the National
 Center for Supercomputing Applications in Urbana, Ill., with help from the
 National Science Foundation, will collaborate on investigations into the
 origin of structure in the universe, how galaxies evolve and what happens

    Albuquerque, N.M. -- Scientists at Sandia National Laboratories have
 achieved record-setting performance for the second time in as many months,
 as they recorded 102.050 GFLOPS on a double-precision complex LU
 factorization running on their full 1,840-node Intel Paragon supercomputer.

    San Francisco, Calif. -- Cray Research Superservers (CRS), the Ore.-

 product line that the company called the world's fastest and most
 expandable SPARC/Solaris compliant systems.
