FINAL WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT *************************** 5th RAPS --------- OPEN Workshop ------------- on Parallel Benchmarks ---------------------- and Programming Models ---------------------- Wednesday, May 25 and Thursday, May 26, 1994 -------------------------------------------- German Climate Computing Centre / Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ) Hamburg, Germany ---------------- Organized by: Dr. Volker Guelzow; DKRZ and Dr. Ruediger Jakob; DKRZ Phone: +49-40-41173-283 Phone: +49-40-41173-261 FAX: -116 FAX: -270 Email: guelzow@dkrz.d400.de Email: jakob@dkrz.d400.de Overview ******** The workshop will review recent developments in programming models for parallel applications, outline the features of some of the RAPS parallel benchmarks and present some complementary international initiatives. The current status of the proposed European Union Framework 4 Program will be presented. One session of the workshop will give vendors an opportunity to show the results of RAPS benchmarks on their latest machines. In the final session results obtained by the developers of the codes will be presented. The RAPS Consortium ******************* The RAPS (Real Applications on Parallel Systems) consortium came into existence to promote the creation of benchmarks for important applications on massively-parallel computers. As part of this activity it has a strong interest in adopting a programming model that can provide portability without excessive sacrifice of performance. The current adopted programming model is PARMACS, which is available on all the participating vendors' parallel supercomputers. The consortium consists of a number of users and developers of significant large production codes running on supercomputers. It is supported by a Consultative Forum of computer manufacturers which currently includes ACRI, Convex, Cray, Fujitsu, IBM, Intel, NEC and Thinking Machines Corp.. About 2 million people are living in Hamburg and its surroundings. It is also the location of many other scientific research labs. The Deutsche Klimarechenzentrum (DKRZ), located in the heart of Hamburg, is one of the major scientific computing centres of the world dedicated to climate research. In May the climate in Hamburg is very mild, so the social event will take place on a boat. Local Arrangements: ******************* The following hotels are recommended for participants.
