CALL FOR PARTICIPATION PARALLEL OBJECT-ORIENTED METHODS AND APPLICATIONS POOMA '94 Santa Fe, New Mexico December 5th-7th 1994 We are sponsoring a workshop to address issues involved in Parallel Object-Oriented Methods and Applications (POOMA). Although there are many forums which address object oriented paradigms and parallel/distributed computing environments separately, there seem to be very few which address their interoperability. The workshop will be held in Santa Fe, NM at the La Fonda Hotel from December 5th to December 7th, 1994. The attendance will be roughly 150 participants. The main purpose of this workshop is to identify key issues in the interoperability of object-oriented paradigms on distributed and parallel architectures in a forum which spans from the hardware and software manufacturers to the application developers in industry, government, and academia. Issues which will be addressed at this workshop include (and are certainly not limited to): -Software portability, components, and reuse across disparate parallel, distributed, and serial architectures. -Object-oriented language issues such as compiler technology, parallel extensions, and performance. -Parallel architecture abstractions such as interprocessor communication, memory layout, parallel I/O, object distribution, concurrency, and synchronization. -Applications, tools, and class libraries in industry, government, and academia. -Standards for a plug and play environment of interoperable components for industrial use. -Current directions and trends in the parallel/OO hardware and software industries. The meeting will consist of contributed oral presentations, panel discussions, and break-out sessions. We will have a finalized agenda by Nov 15th. For the latest list of attendees, panel members, weather in Los Alamos, speakers, agenda, abstracts and related papers please consult the POOMA web page at: http://www.acl.lanl.gov/Pooma/intro.html There will be several oral presentations which will occur each day of the workshop. The morning presentations will be in the main conference room and will each be a 25 minute talk followed by 5 minutes of questions. There will also be parallel oral presentations in the late afternoon. These latter sessions will occur directly following the panel discussions. There will be three panel discussions, one each day following lunch with each panel member speaking for 5-10 minutes (will vary depending upon total number of panel members). In all, the panel members will take about 45 minutes. Then, another 45 minutes of Q&A from the audience. Depending on interest, the discussion may be extended or be continued in an afternoon breakout session. If you have questions which you would like to have addressed by the panel members, please send them to pooma@acl.lanl.gov Parallel breakout-sessions will occur in the afternoons. There are a total of three rooms besides the main room available for sessions. Check the POOMA mosaic page for the current list of breakout topics and please send e-mail if you would like to suggest a topic, chair a breakout session, or participate in one that you see listed. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please fill out the registration form attached below and send to the Protocol Office at Los Alamos National Laboratories. -John Reynders Advanced Computing Laboratory Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, NM 87544 (505)-665-7449 reynders@acl.lanl.gov >>>>>>>>>>>>>PRELIMINARY AGENDA<<<<<<<<<<<<< Sunday - December 4, 1994 --------------------------------- 6:00-7:15 Early Registration/Reception La Fonda Hotel Monday Session - December 5, 1994 --------------------------------- Morning Session 8:30 Welcome John Reynders, Los Alamos National Laboratory 8:45 Who needs Objects?
