The following announcement is available in a nicer Postscript form from: http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/kwb/pcrcw.html ftp: shrimp.cs.washington.edu: pub/PCRCW.ps ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Announcement and Advance Registration 1994 University of Washington Parallel Computer Routing and Communication Workshop May 16-18, 1994 University of Washington Seattle, Washington Interconnection networks form the backbone of modern massively-parallel multicomputer systems. Because the performance of a system's interconnection network can determine the overall performance of the entire computer, the network must be designed to provide the maximum possible performance. This workshop will focus on new technology in the design of interconnection networks for tightly-coupled massively-parallel systems. It will be open from 6:00-9:00 PM on Sunday, May 15th at the reception (which is held at the Meany Tower Hotel) and during the sessions (May 16-18) outside of the conference meeting room at the HUB. We strongly encourage you to register early for the workshop. This will allow us to estimate the number of attendees for such items as proceedings, etc. Hotel Information A block of rooms has been set aside at the Meany Tower Hotel for conference attendees. The Meany Tower Hotel is located just two blocks from campus, at 4507 Brooklyn Avenue NE. See the section on transportation below for details. Please contact the Meany Tower Hotel directly to make your reservations; be sure to identify yourself with the "UW - PCRCW" workshop to receive noted rates. These rates will apply for the period May 15 - 18, 1994. Reservations must be made by APRIL 15, 1994. Reservations received after the contracted block of rooms is full or after the cut-off date of April 15 are subject to space availability. Meany Tower Hotel 4507 Brooklyn Avenue NE Seattle, WA 98105 Reservations: 206/634-2000 or 800/648-6440 Single $69.00 Double $79.00 Access to Conference Site All conference meetings will take place on the University of Washington campus. We will be using the Husky Union Building (HUB) for all meetings and luncheons. The HUB is centrally located on campus (a map will be included in the registration packet or can be sent to you upon request). We will be using Room 310 for the actual meeting times, and Room 106B for the luncheons. The Meany Tower Hotel is located within walking distance to the campus. Parking is available on campus. For best access to the workshop, one should park in the Central Parking Garage by entering on the corner of 15th Ave. NE and 41st Ave. Parking is $4.50 per day. Reception There will be an opening reception for all workshop participants at 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 15, at the Meany Tower Hotel. Wine and beer will be served. Banquet There will be a harbor cruise to Blake Island (and Tillicum Village) on Monday evening, May 16. Workshop participants are invited to attend an evening that features an Indian baked salmon dinner and Northwest Coast native dance program. Additional tickets for spouses and guests may be purchased for $45. Busses will meet outside of the Meany Tower Hotel at 6:00 pm to take us to the pier; bus service will also be provided back to the hotel after the ferry returns, around 10:00 pm. NOTE: This banquet is not included with student registration, but is available to students at a pro-rated amount of $25.00 per ticket. Forum On Tuesday night, there will be an open forum for extemporaneous discussion of research ideas. This will be in an "open mike" format, where speakers sign up for short time slots to speak on research and ideas. Advance preparation is not necessary. Please sign up at the workshop to reserve a speaking slot. Transportation There are several options to get from SeaTac airport. One option is Shuttle Express, which will drop you off directly at your desired location. To contact Shuttle Express, press #48 on a reservation center phone located in the baggage claim area. Fares from the airport to the Meany Tower Hotel are approximately $18.00. (Travel time is about 20 minutes, depending on traffic.) Another option is a taxi, which should cost approximately $25.00-$30.00. If you are renting a car or driving, take I-5 north and exit at the N.E. 45th Street exit. Turn right onto 45th Avenue NE. The Meany is located six blocks east of I-5, on the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and 45th Avenue NE. It is on the north side of the street. To reach the campus, continue on 45th Avenue NE to 15th Avenue NE. Turn right onto 15th Avenue. The central parking garage is accessible from 15th Avenue, at 41st Avenue. Information about Seattle Points of interest within Seattle include the Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, Seattle Center, the Woodland Park Zoo, and the waterfront area which includes the Seattle Aquarium. These areas can be reached by public transportation from the hotel. Within a two to three hour driving distance from Seattle are three national parks: Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, and Mount Rainier National Park. Daytime temperatures in mid-May are expected to be in the lower 60s, and nighttime temperatures in the upper 40s. Rain is likely. An umbrella is suggested, as well as a thicker outer jacket for evening travel.
