HPF Workshop organized by GMD and PALLAS Location: GMD, C3-T36, D-53757 St. Augustin Date: December 8 - 9, 1994 Background High Performance Fortran (HPF) is the new standard for data parallel programming. After the release of the standard, several HPF compilers have been announced from various hardware vendors and independent software companies, among them the Portland Group, Inc. (PGI). Currently, however, HPF is not much used for software developments in Europe. Software developers are not sure to which extent codes with complex and irregular data structures can be implemented using the data parallel paradigm. Moreover, many HPF compilers suffer from being incomplete and immature. Contents The workshop will inform about the background of HPF, describe its scope and clarify its limits. Application examples coded in HPF will be discussed and compared to their message-passing counterparts. The participants will have the opportunity to use the HPF compiler from PGI on a workstation cluster. In addition to the examples prepared by the speakers, the participants are encouraged to bring own (small) HPF codes. Registration and Contact No registration fee is charged.
