CALL FOR PAPERS: A special issue of IEEE Computational Science & Engineering on VISUAL SUPERCOMPUTING Visual computing is the new frontier in computational science and engineering. As high-end supercomputers have become more powerful, and greater than Cray Y-MP performance has become available on the desktop, the scientific community has witnessed an explosion in its ability to generate results. Systems which tightly couple high performance visualization with high performance computing are becoming more common as are high performance networks which are beginning to allow remote visualization and interaction with running simulations. The theme of this special issue of IEEE CS&E is on current research and applications in steering, simulation and visualization which are tightly coupled with scientific and engineering computation. It fits in the context of computational science and engineering with an emphasis on high performance and graphics presentation. The goals of the special issue are to - begin the definition of a new category of computing called "visual supercomputing", - emphasis the computation and presentation of scientific applications, - identify ideas such as "computational steering" through interactive graphical user interface and introduce them to a larger community, - explore the progress made in the application of new visualization technology such as real-time simulation and virtual reality to engineering and scientific calculations. SUBMISSION All the accepted papers will be published on our World Wide Web. Please send 6 copies of original papers including video/audio clips to VISUAL SUPERCOMPUTING IEEE Computational Science & Engineering PO Box 3014 10662 Los Vaqueros Circle Los Alamitos, CA 90720-1314 USA Submission deadline: June 15 Acceptances: Sept. 1 HTML format papers will be sought shortly after acceptances. --------
