CALL FOR PAPERS 8th International Workshop on DISTRIBUTED ALGORITHMS (WDAG-8) Terschelling, the Netherlands, September 29 - October 1, 1994 Following the successful Workshops on Distributed Algorithms in Ottawa (1985), Amsterdam (1987), Nice (1989), Bari (1990), Delphi (1991), Haifa (1992), and Lausanne (1993), the Eighth Int. Workshop on Distributed Algorithms will be held in the Netherlands in 1994. The workshop covers the entire area of distributed algorithms, and is devoted to the presentation of new research results and the identification of future research directions in this area. The workshop will be held in West-Terschelling (Friesland), on the island of Terschelling along the northern coast of the Netherlands. The workshop is scheduled back-to-back with the European Symposium on Algorithms (ESA94), to be held near Utrecht (the Netherlands) on 26 - 28 September. Papers are solicited describing original results or authoritative tutorial surveys in all areas of distributed algorithms and their application, including, but not restricted to: - Distributed algorithms for control and communication - Fault-tolerant distributed algorithms - Network protocols - Protocols for real-time distributed systems - Issues in asynchrony, synchrony and real-time - Algorithms for managing replicated data - Distributed database techniques - Mechanisms for security in distributed systems - Selfstabilizing algorithms - Algorithms for changing network topologies - Wait-free algorithms - Techniques for the design and analysis of distributed systems - Distributed combinatorial and optimization algorithms - Distributed graph algorithms - Algorithms in the area between parallel and distributed algorithms The program committee plans to accept a limited number of tutorial surveys which will have an extra long presentation time at the conference, and an expanded number of pages in the proceedings. Intended contributors are invited to submit 13 copies of an extended abstract or full paper to Ms. Anna Baanders, WDAG94 Secretary, CWI, Kruislaan 413, 1098 SJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands Submissions must not exceed 15 pages with roughly 35 lines/page. Accepted tutorial surveys are allowed up to 25 pages. Submissions not conforming with these guidelines may not be considered. Please include a 150 word abstract, 5 keywords, and address, and e-mail address, fax/telephone number of the contact author. Proceedings will be published in the series Lectures Notes in Computer Science of Springer-Verlag. There is a limit of 15 pages (25 for tutorial surveys) for a paper in the proceedings. Important dates: Submission of papers: April 20, 1994 Acceptance notification: June 10, 1994 Camera-ready version: July 15, 1994 Program Committee: J.
