********************************************************* * PCAT'94: PARALLEL COMPUTING and TRANSPUTER CONFERENCE * ********************************************************* University of Wollongong Wollongong, NSW, Australia 9th - 10th November 1994 The 1994 Australian Parallel Computing and Transputer Conference will be hosted by the University of Wollongong and will be held on campus from Wednesday, 9th November to Thursday, 10th November, 1994. Aim and Theme ************* The Conference aim is to provide a forum to share ideas and experiences in the areas of parallel computing and transputers: research, development and applications. Who should attend ***************** The Conference is aimed at researchers and developers in both academia and industry: in particular those involved in, but not restricted to, the following areas: - Parallel languages - Parallel algorithms - Parallel and distributed applications - Distributed operating systems - Transputer and other parallel architectures Programme ********* The conference programme consists of: invited and contributed papers, a vendors exhibition, posters on selected topics, an industrial session, and a panel session. A more detailed programme will be made available nearer the conference date. Invited speaker *************** Vaidy Sunderam of Emory University, Atlanta, USA will present a keynote address on "New Initiatives in Heterogeneous Parallel Computing". Tutorial ******** A tutorial on "PVM and Auxiliary Tools" will be held on Tuesday 8th November, the day before the conference begins. The tutorial includes lectures by Vaidy Sunderam and practical sessions of software demonstrations. PCAT'94 Participants ********************* A number of institutions and international companies with an interest in parallel computing will be attending this conference. Vendors of parallel computing hardware and software have been invited to exhibit their latest products. Social Program ************** The conference dinner will be held on Wednesday 9th of November. The price for this is included in the registration fee. Information on other activities available in the Sydney/Wollongong area is available on request from the conference organisers. Paper Submissions ***************** The conference proceedings will be published by IOS Press (Amsterdam) and will be available in published form at the conference. The proceedings will include invited and contributed papers in full, and posters as one page abstracts. All papers will be refereed by the Programme Committee. Authors wishing to submit should send full papers of 6-10 A4 pages in size. There is no required format for this initial submission; although single column, single spaced, 10 or 12 point font is preferred. However, final versions of accepted papers must conform to the IOS Press camera ready instructions and will be limited to 12 pages maximum (including figures). These instructions will be sent to successful authors when notified of the referees' decision. One page abstracts, for poster presentation only, may also be submitted. Deadlines are: submission of paper or abstract 31st July 1994 notification 31st August 1994 camera ready copy 30th September 1994 Registration ************ Those wishing to attend the conference are requested to complete the attached form and to return it, along with a registration fee, to the conference address given below. The registration fee includes: attendance at the conference and exhibition, a copy of the conference proceedings, conference dinner, tea/coffee and lunches on 9th/10th November. The tutorial fee includes a copy of the tutorial notes, morning and afternoon tea/coffee, and lunch on 8th November. The fees, in Australian dollars, are as follows: Early registration, before 30th September $250 Late registration, after 30th September $270 Full time students (not including conference dinner) $110 Extra conference dinners (for students, spouses etc.) $50 Tutorial fee $80 Cheques, bank drafts, or money orders should be made payable to "PCAT'94". Venue and Accommodation *********************** The University of Wollongong has been selected as the venue for PACT'94. The University campus lies on the outskirts of Wollongong, about 3 km from the city centre. Wollongong is situated on the New South Wales south coast, next to the Pacific Ocean, 80 km (50 miles) due south of Sydney. The University campus is adjacent to the F6 freeway, and it is about one hour's drive from Sydney airport. There is a regular and frequent train service from Sydney, and the journey time from Sydney central station to Wollongong is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. The rainforest-covered escarpment, especially Mount Keira, forms a spectacular backdrop to the University campus. Close by are some of the best beaches in Australia. In November, the climate is usually warm, dry, and sunny. For overseas visitors, the southern Spring/early-Summer is a great time of the year to visit Australia. For visitors arriving by car, there is parking available on the University campus. On-campus accommodation is not available for the conference, but a range of accommodation is available in Wollongong.
