Announcement and Call for Papers The International Conference and Exhibition on High-Performance Computing and Networking, HPCN Europe'95 The last HPCN Europe'94 Conference and Exhibition was held in Munich. It attracted more than 1600 delegates, exhibitors, and visitors. Some 45 exhibitors showed their products, and a Technology Demonstrators Display further enhanced interaction between users and suppliers. The display connected the machines in the exhibition by a powerful network - in fact the HPCN'94 housed, temporarily, the largest supercomputer centre in Germany. In all, HPCN Europe, supported by several European initiatives, is really taking off now ! HPCN Europe 1995 is scheduled from May 2 to 5 at the CENTRO CONGRESSI MILANOFIORI in Milan, Italy. The conference is supported by an advisory board of over 50 leading experts from the European research community both >from academia and from end-user industry as well as from most of the computer manufacturers. The Programme Committee with 25 experts from the same community guaranties high quality paper selection. As in Munich in 1994, the conference is accompanied by the largest European HPCN exhibition, from May 3 to 5. In Milano over 60 HPCN exhibitors are expected. The CONFERENCE will cover different areas of scientific, industrial, and commercial applications. It will show both the role of HPCN as a path finding tool for diverse areas of research such as: chemistry, physics, biosciences, climate research, material sciences, molecular science, geophysics, pattern recognition, image processing, etc. as well as a provider of the competitive edge in aerospace technology, industrial design and manufacturing, automotive industry, plant management, etc. The underlying computational science aspects like CAE, CFD, CAM, etc. will be treated in dedicated sessions. New emerging fields in HPCN such as transaction processing, banking, insurances, information management and parallel databases are particularly welcome and will be subject to special sessions. Another part of the conference is dedicated to tools, programming languages, compilers and user interfaces. Beneath these aspects of using high-performance computers, new architectures and their corresponding system software will be considered such as database machines or systems for parallel I/O as well as real-time systems. In addition, different aspects of networking will be discussed. Contributed papers are solicited in all these areas, in addition some of these themes will be covered by special lectures, given by well-known invited speakers, among them Jack Dongarra, Oak Ridge National Lab. and University of Tennessee Paul Messina, California Institute of Technology Mike Reeve, Commission of the European Communities, Brussels In addition, TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATORS will demonstrate real world applications on real parallel systems. It is an illustration of how the experience gained in universities and research laboratories in the fields of e.g. algorithms, parallel programming and porting of code to parallel computers, can be transferred directly into industry. Also, proposals for TUTORIALS and WORKSHOPS in actual fields of HPCN are solicited. They will take place on the first day of the conference (May 2). Like the one in 1994 this conference and exhibition aims to offer to the HPCN community THE European Forum for High-Performance Computing and Networking with a focus on real life industrial and scientific applications. Conference Chairpersons are Prof. Giuseppe Serazzi from Dept. of Electronics of the Politecnico di Milano (Conference Programme), Prof. Giovanni Degli Antoni from the University of Milano (Local Organization Chairman), Dr. Alberto Pieri from FAST in Milano (Local Organization), Prof. Wolfgang Gentzsch, FH Regensburg and GENIAS, (Tutorials and Workshops), and Prof. Bob Hertzberger, University of Amsterdam (HPCN Foundation). PAPER SUBMISSION Contributed papers can be submitted to the Conference Secretariat at the address given below, preferably via electronic mail. Extended abstracts (2 pages minimum) or full papers (6 pages maximum) will be accepted for refereeing. Papers are solicited among others on scientific, industrial and commercial applications on networking, on tools, languages and algorithms. Submissions should contain Title, authors, full address, telephone, fax number, E-mail address, introduction, description, results, discussion. They have to be addressed to the Conference Secretariat. DEADLINE for Submissions is November 1, 1994. PROPOSE A POSTER Authors preferring a more informal, interactive presentation of their results may submit a proposal for a poster to the Conference Secretariat. DEADLINE for poster proposals is November 1, 1994. PAPER PUBLICATION Accepted papers and posters will be published in the conference proceedings. Moreover a selection of the best papers will be published in a special issue of the North Holland journal FGCS. REGISTRATION FEE Early registration until March 15, 1995 Lire 450 000 (research) 700 000 (industry) Late registration after March 15, 1995 550 000 (research) 800 000 (industry) Special registration fee on a per day basis and for students will be available on request. More detailed information about registration, accommodation, transportation, etc. may be obtained January 1, 1995, through the Conference Secretariat.
