International Conference on Advances in Parallel and Distributed Computing (APDC-97) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- March 19-22, 1997, Shanghai, PR China CALL FOR PARTICIPATION The purpose of the international conference on Advances in Parallel and Distributed Computing (APDC-97) is to bring together scientists of three continents: America, Asia, and Europe, to present and discuss recent achievements in the development and use of parallel or distributed computer systems. The conference will address itself to both the architectural aspects and the issues concerning the use of such systems. The latter will include the topics of programming models, languages, tools, and operating software, as well as novel applications. The conference is organized in cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society, the German National Research Center for Information Technology, Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Technology (GMD-FIRST), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Architecture Professional Committee of the China Computer Federation (APC-CCF). Distributed computers, i.e., clusters of workstations, are even more cost-effective, as the workstations exist already. With increasing performance of the interconnection network of workstation clusters and the increasing efficiency of their operating software, the performance of the cluster will increase accordingly. Consequently,it is expected that parallel computing will become more wide spread than is has been so far through the use of strongly coupled parallel computers. The purpose of the international conference on Advances in Parallel and Distributed Computing is to bring together scientists of three continents: America, Asia, and Europe, to present and discuss recent achievements in the development and use of parallel or distributed computer systems. The conference will address itself to both the architectural aspects and the issues concerning the use of such systems. The latter will include the topics of - parallel programming models - parallel programming languages - parallel programming tools - parallelizing compilers - parallel operating systems & runtime systems - novel applications for parallel and distributed computing (numerical and non-numerical applications, graphics, signal processing, etc.) The proceedings will be published as a book by the IEEE Computer Society Press. To submit a paper, please send an extended abstract of not more than ten double-spaced pages, including figures, etc. to the program chair. You can send it by mail (5 copies), fax (1 copy), or e-mail (postscript file, 300 dpi).E-mail should be send to: . Papers are submitted with the understanding that at least one of the authors will attend the conference and present the paper if accepted. Please include a cover page listing the mailing address, fax number, and e-mail address of the person who is responsible for submitting the final version, as well as of the person who will present it if accepted. All papers will be reviewed. The extended abstracts must have been received before July 1, 1996. Authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection before September 1, 1996. The photo-ready copy of the paper is due before November 1, 1996. The conference proceedings will be available at the conference. Program Committee Chair Professor Wolfgang K.
