Over the pat few years, I have been affiliated with several professional societies, chapters as student member as well as professional member in the field of Technical Communication and Human-Computer Interaction. I have tried to actively involve with these societies and chapters and I have gained a tremendous respect for these particular fields that I am in as well as knowledge and information that are core in 'user-centric' computer enviornment.  

:: ACM

Professional member 1999-Current
Founded in 1947, ACM is a major force in advancing the skills of information technology professionals and students worldwide. Today, our 75,000 members and the public turn to ACM for the industry's leading Portal to Computing Literature, authoritative publications and pioneering conferences, providing leadership for the 21st century.

:: SIGCHI

Professional member 1998-Current
ACM SIGCHI embraces work on the hardware and software engineering of interactive systems, the structure of communication between human and machine, characterization of the use and contexts of use for interactive systems, methodology of design, and new designs themselves. ACM SIGCHI serves as an international venue for specialists in human-computer interaction, education, usability, interaction design, computer supported cooperative work, and other related areas. The group helps to organize and coordinate information through online services, traditional publications, local SIGS, conferences, workshops, and symposia relating to HCI.

:: STC

Student member 1995-1997
Professional member 1998-2001

STC is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world. Its 25,000 members include technical writers and editors, content developers, documentation specialists, technical illustrators, instructional designers, academics, information architects, usability and human factors professionals, visual designers, Web designers and developers, and translators - anyone whose work makes technical information available to those who need it.

:: STC-SIG-Usability

Professional member 1998-2001
The Usability SIG is a special interest group of STC, the Society for Technical Communication. With over 2500 members from around the world, it is a forum for promoting the practice of usability. The Usability SIG focuses on issues related to the usability and usability assessment of technical communication, providing a forum in which STC members can share information and experience.



:: STC-SIG-Information Design

Professional member 1998-2001
The field of information design applies traditional and evolving design principles to the process of translating complex, unorganized, or unstructured data into valuable, meaningful information.
The practice of information design requires an interdisciplinary approach which combines skills in graphic design, writing and editing, instructional design, human performance technology, and human factors.


 


:: UPA

Professional member 2002-Current
Recognizing the need for a practical-oriented organization dedicated to enhancing the skills and professional success of usability professionals, Janice James created the Usability Professionals' Association in 1991. The original membership of 50 has grown today to over 1,600 members.
