02 bricks and mortar observations

bricks and mortar observations allow us to capture how users currently approach the task, outside of the web interface. these findings lead to understanding both the limitations and potentials of moving a real-world transaction to an online environment.

location one: petco

we chose petco because it is a place where dog owners come, often with their dogs, and make decisions for their animals. we wanted to see what kind of information owners used and understand what information they need.

location two: western pennsylvania humane society

the western pennsylvania humane society allowed us to talk to several different types of dog owners. we talked to people looking to adopt a dog, new dog owners taking their pets to obedience classes, and long-time owners bringing their dogs to the on-site clinic. we also spoke with two dog experts - an adoption counselor and a volunteer.
