go steelers! awesome game! thanks erin! :: posted by me 3:46pm 02/03/09  canada, not too shabby i love to travel but for some reason, until this past month, had never visited our neighbors to the north. however, a conference in montreal in june and a spontaneous road trip to toronto this past weekend have fixed that. some highlights... - the food: thanks to audrey we had a vetted list of restaurants in montreal to try, including: Au Pied de Cochon (home of the best foie gras dish i've ever had), Lemaec (a delightful bistro with a $22 prix fixe menu), and O Noir (a restaurant where you eat in complete darkness). and we happened to arrive in toronto during summerlicious so managed to eat well there too. - shopping: finally satisfied my urge for cute shoes and some new clothes. plus, found pleasure in the irony of spending my 2008 stimulus check abroad. - the people: it's true, canadians are nice! within 24 hours of being in toronto, i was called tall (ok, that may be more an artifact of staying with erin's relatives and not all canadians, but still) and TWICE people said that i had a nice tan! another favorite quote was "we say sorry a lot in canada". somehow that just seemed to sum up the culture perfectly. :: posted by me 10:56pm 07/16/08 frequent flier lots of traveling lately - punxsutawney to see the famous phil make his prediction, long weekend in germany (not as crazy as it sounds), home for another comobabi carnival (happy birthday mom!), peru for spring break (woohoo!), and i'm off to san francisco next week! :: posted by me 11:14am 03/27/08 new year, new colors  when i first moved to the house, there was a fake trim in the living room. not too bad except there was a curly decorative thing that crossed over the arch that i didn't like. at my house warming party when i was talking about wanting to take it down, a friend reminded me that i was no longer renting and could do whatever i wanted to the place. so, i got a ladder and ripped it down right then and there. for the past year and a half, the shadow of the paint has reminded me of being a home owner. fortunately, i can now be reminded of this simply by looking at the new paint on the walls.

:: posted by me 11:01am 6/27/07 sleddin' as much as i bemoan the cold, i secretly love winter because: snow + big hill = a wonderful afternoon some pics and even a video from last sunday: pics (thanks johnny!) video (thanks mike!) :: posted by me 11:18am 2/23/07 adventures in home-owning despite the fact that puxsutawney phil didn't see his shadow and spring should be just around the corner, we've been experiencing very cold temps here in the 'burgh. so cold that when i got home yesterday and turned on the faucet in the bathroom, nothing came out. after a brief panic attack, a call home to dad, and input from friends, i called a plumber who came this morning, hooked up his magic heat-a-pipe and saved the day. i'm happy to report that everything is back to normal and i no longer have to brush my teeth in the kitchen. i also got this from my dad this morning...
