As Pittsburgh prepares to observe its 250th Anniversary in 2008, the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon joins in the celebrations by including our region's leading role in robotics education and research, which stretches back to the 1920s. But more than just looking back, Robot 250 will highlight the future of Pittsburgh, emphasizing educational and creative opportunities in robotics.
Teams of students, based in a number of community locations, will develop their own functional robots, drawn from elements of several specially-developed “technology toolboxes.” Robots resulting from these workshop efforts will be displayed in museum exhibitions and civic installations in Summer 2008.
Open Studios will be conducted at several locations around the region. These studios will provide materials and technical support for individuals or groups wanting to develop their own robots. Studio efforts will be displayed in Summer 2008 via a museum exhibition of professionally produced robots based on selected team prototypes.

Gigapan_This new imaging device attaches to any standard digital camera to transform it into a billion-pixel panoramic imager. The resulting images have so much resolution that, if printed on 40 foot wide paper, they would still not be at full resolution.
