Directions to Carnegie Mellon

Here is a campus map (north is down!) showing the University Center (the conference site), Parking Garage, dormitories ("Resnick West Wing"), and LTI. The Holiday Inn is off of Fifth Avenue, just off the right edge of this map.

Parking:

Parking is available at the Holiday Inn for $14 per day.
On campus parking will be available in the covered East Campus Garage, which is adjacent to the University Center. Daily parking passes can be purchased on site for $5.50 per day.
The Parking Garage is CLOSED on weekends in the summer; when it is closed, all campus lots are free. One convenient campus lot is on the far corner of the Forbes and Morewood intersection (see the map).
Note that the hotel is a 15-minute walk from campus, and the hotel shuttle will also be available.

Directions from Pittsburgh International Airport:

Carnegie Mellon is in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, about 3 miles east of downtown, and about 20 miles (30 kilometers) east of the airport.

By Cab: You can reach a more reliable subset of the Yellow Cab drivers by calling 412-281-7005. Ask the driver to take you to Carnegie Mellon University, in the Oakland section of town. If the driver does not know the "University Center", ask for "the corner of Forbes and Morewood", which is the best-known location on campus. This puts you right by the University Center. The fare should be about $35 to $40. There is also an airport shuttle service.
By Bus: The local bus line, PAT, runs a special bus called the 28X between Carnegie Mellon and the airport, leaving every 45 minutes. As of May 2001, it's only $2.00 each way! You will be responsible for handling your own luggage. At Carnegie Mellon the bus stops on Forbes Avenue, near the intersection with Morewood; just cross Forbes, and you will be right by the University Center. To go to the conference hotel, you can get off at Bellefield and Fifth, and walk a few hundred feet west to Lytton and Fifth, then up Lytton to the hotel. Carnegie Mellon and the airport are the ends of the line, so it is hard to make a big mistake. The 28X's schedule is available on-line here.
Driving: Exit the airport and follow signs for Pittsburgh. When you pass through the Fort Pitt tunnel, stay to the right and take the exit for 376. Take the "Oakland" exit from 376. This will put you on Forbes Avenue. Continue east on Forbes, passing the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Museum. You will pass Craig St. (on the left) and pass over a small bridge that goes over Panther Hollow. Morewood is the next cross street. Visitor parking is available in the parking garage, which is located on Forbes, past Morewood, on the right hand side, just past the University Center.
