THE FREDERKING FAMILY TREE A. Westphalian-(``Kur'')Hessian-American branch 2 2nd Edition Newly worked out by Karl Frederking (A VII 14) in Jena in the year 1909, on the basis of the original family tree developed by 2 his father Heinrich Frederking (A VI 18) in 1855 in Kassel. [Translated from the German by Robert Frederking, grandson of Theodor 2 Frederking (A IX 14), in Pittsburgh.] Notes: 1. Abbreviations: born = born, baptized = baptized, died = died, buried = buried, married = married, nee (``gb'' or ``geb'') = maiden name, retired = retired, Fr or Frdkg = Frederking. 2. The Frederking family trees of different stems are indicated with A, B, etc.; the generations with Roman numerals I, II, III, etc., and the members of one row with Arabic numerals 1, 2, 3, etc. The letters A, B, etc, are marked with a superscript that indicates the edition of the family tree. Every member 2 of the family can thereby be precisely designated, for example, A IV 2 is Christoph Wilhelm Frederking, preacher in Luebbecke and Fischbeck, the patriarch of the three branches of stem A that are still living. 3. Several coats of arms have been produced by the Frederkings, which all show the heraldic five-leaved rose as the central figure in the shield (compare neighboring illustration). The other forms are varied and require further investigation. 4. The name Frederking is of Low German origin, formed from Frederik or Fredereck, shortened to Frederk (= Friedrich), and the diminutive ending ``-ing'', which in family names means essentially descendant of. 5. It is very likely that the formation of the name, and therefore the origin of the Frederkings, is limited to the northeast part of Westphalia (the former principality of Minden, the county of Ravensberg, the adjacent Lippe lands, and parts of Hanover), so that this area must be the ancestral homeland of all Frederkings. 6. Various other Frederkings lived in Minden at the same time as our three 2 2 2 oldest ancestors (A I 2 Eberhard, A II 5 Konrad, and A III 8 Rudolf), who quite likely were related to each other and to our ancestors. To make further investigations easier, they are included in this family tree, but with their 2 numerals parenthesized. These are A I 1, II 1 - 4, 6 - 8, III 1 - 5, 14 - 22. In addition there were, and are still today, various Frederkings in Minden who are probably not related to us, but rather to the numerous Frederkings in Hahlen and Hartum by Minden. 2 7.
