The Pump-n'-Go Car

Toy Principle:

The two main principles that this is based on are pressure and work.  The child will learn that the input of work into the car is what is used to make the car go.  Secondly, the concept of pressure is demonstrated by the use of visible internal mechanisms.

How it Works:

The car uses stored pressure to make the car move along.  The child operates the car by first priming the car using the billow at the back of the car.  The pressure pump forces air into the bladder in the center of the car.  The pump has a pressure release valve to allow for the maximum pressure to be stored in the car without the bladder becoming over pressurized.  Once the car is primed with a maximum pressure stored in the bladder the car is ready for motion.  The child starts the car in motion by pressing the spring-loaded button at the front of the car.  This releases the pressure of the bladder into the turbine at the front of the car causing the turbine to spin.  This rotational motion is then used to turn the front wheels of the car using the proper gearing.

Considering the physical aspects of the car itself, the body will be made of injection molded plastic with bright colors.  All elements of the car will be self-contained so no interference with the mechanisms can occur.  On the other hand, the outside cover of the car will be transparent in some places, such as by the turbine and gears, to allow the child to view the workings of the car while it is in action.  The overall plastic construction should render the vehicle hardy enough for even the most wily youngster.
