Nesting spheres
Principle: rotation of objects relative to one another

What to do with it:
Combine the balls in whatever way you want, then watch how
the ones inside move when you roll them. You can also put other toys
inside.
Construction:
Similar to that of hamster exercise balls. Different colors of clear molded
plastic.
Durability:
These probably won't survive being smashed down onto concrete. The seams are
especially delicate compared to the rest. Keeping the pieces assembled should
help, because it hides the seams and because complete spheres are relatively
strong.
Safety:
The plastic should resist shattering as much as possible. The seams could
pinch hands if one isn't careful. Rolling this toy is a better idea than
throwing it because the plastic is hard.
Alternatively, if the balls weren't capable of being disassembled, they could
be made from softer plastic. This would make construction more difficult since
they'd have to be nested as they were made.
Avoid putting hamsters inside: there aren't air holes.
