Materials

The materials used in fused depositinos systems are limited. The materials must have a melting point between 180 and 220 degrees Farhenheit. Also the material must be modable by the machine. The majority of the systems use thermoplastic materials. ABS (Acylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastics, Investment Casting Waxirconia, Alumina, chopped Carbon-Fiber Reinforced PolyEtherEtherKetone (PEEK), and MABS (methyl methracrylate ABS) plastics are the main source of material for the fused deposition.

At Rutger's University the Laboratory for Solid Freeform Fabrication of Advanced Cermanic is creating Silicon Nitride parts.
