What are the size and shape limitations on the parts?

The size of the part produced is limited by the size of the vat in the SLA machine. The largest dimensions currently available are 20"x20"x24". The shape of the parts is limited by the thickness of the layers (some machines can produce smaller layers than others) and by the quality of the polygon approximation in the .STL file.

Another design limitation to the SLA process is the consideration of hollow interior surfaces. Because the resin used in SLA is liquid, any overhangs or hollow crevices require supports to be built to accomodate their design. If these are not constructed, the spaces will fill with liquid as well. On the whole, SLA is more efficient for solid structures.
