Concept 2

Diving Game

The diving game is based on the principles of buoyancy, pressure, and the compressibility of air. The game is basically a big jar with sides that can be squeezed to increase the pressure inside. A cartesian diver is placed inside the jar, this is a small tube that is filled paritally with air so that it floats at regular pressure. When the pressure inside the jar is increased, the air inside the diver is compressed and more water flows in. This changes the buoyancy and causes the diver to sink in the jar.

Children can play with this game in groups or individually. The object of the game is to get the diver to go to the bottom and pick up the small objects on the bottom of the jar. Once these objects are picked up by the hook on the bottom of the diver, the object is to place them on the shelves on the sides of the jar. Games could be played to see who can get the objects on the shelves the fastest, who could get them all on one shelf, or the toy can be played with individually.

The toy will be easy to make, the jar will have a removable lid so that water can be put in once the customer buys the product. The sides will be made of a flexible but strong plastic so that they can be squeezed to increase the pressure. the diver will be a small plastic tube, and the objects on the bottom can be made of anything. The toy will be very durable because everything is plastiv and there are few moving parts. The toy is safe for children ages 3 and up because of the small parts being a choking hazard, but children will need to have enough strength to squeeze the sides in order to play.

The diving game will cost around $20 to make, and will sell for $3
