INDEPENDENCE CONSTRAINTS FOR NONDESCENDANTS

Consider the constraint that, for every variable Xi, nondescendants of Xi are independent from Xi given the parents of Xi: The nondescendants of Xi must be irrelevant to Xi, and Xi must be irrelevant to its nondescendants given the parents of Xi. No efficient algorithm for inferences with such constraints is known; construction of a complex, non-linear optimization program is the only method that can be generally adopted at this point.
