I took the CMU Mechatronic Design course (16778) in Spring 2012. My team built a multishot Nerf ball cannon that could visually track and shoot moving targets. We placed second out of 8 teams in the final competition. The hallmark of our design was an excessively powerful pneumatic firing mechanism, which occasionally broke the targets. For more detail, see the video below and our report.
My responsibilities on the project were CAD design, sourcing parts, and programming the computer vision target tracking software and microcontroller. I had excellent teammates that worked on fabrication, electrical design, wiring, testing, and much more.
