ICMC 2001
Paper Preparation Guidelines
In order to produce a conference proceedings with a consistent appearance and quality, we ask that authors adhere as closely as possible to the following guidelines. To keep the proceedings a reasonable size, papers are limited to at most 4 pages for short papers and demos, and 8 pages for long papers (see your paper notification email to determine whether your contribution is short or long).
THE LANGUAGE of the conference is English.
SENDING PAPERS. Final papers should be sent electronically as PDF files to insure proper formatting in the proceedings.
AUDIO/VIDEO EXAMPLES. Examples may be embedded in the PDF file, which will be included in a CD-ROM version of the proceedings. Alternatively, an html file should be created with links to the audio/video files. Make sure your links are relative URLs and not, for example, absolute file paths to your personal computer. The html file and associated a/v files will be placed in a directory on the CD-ROM. These files should be uploaded separately via ftp per the instructions on the camera-ready submission site visor4.dmi.tut.fi.
MARGINS AND PAGE NUMBERING. All printed material, including text, illustrations, and charts, must be kept within a print area 7 inches wide by 9 inches high. Do not print anything outside the print area. PLEASE DO NOT NUMBER THE PAGES.
FORMATTING YOUR PAPER. The proceedings will be printed on 8-1/2 by 11 inch paper. Two-column format is preferred for the text of the paper. The total allowable width of the text area is 7 inches wide by 9 inches high. Columns are to be 3-3/8 inches wide, with a 1/4 inch space between them and 3/4 inch left and right margins. The main title (on the first page) should begin 1-3/8 inches from the top edge of the page. The second and following pages should begin 1.0 inch from the top edge. On all pages, the bottom margin should be 1.0 inch from the bottom edge of the page.
MAIN TITLE. Center the title 1-3/8 inches (3.49 cm) from the top edge of the first page. The title should be in Times 16-point, boldface type. Capitalize the first letter of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs; do not capitalize articles, coordinate conjunctions, or prepositions (unless the title begins with such a word). Leave about 0.3 inches after the title.
AUTHOR NAME(s) AND AFFILIATION(s) are to be centered beneath the title and printed in non-boldface type, using Times 12-point for authors and Times 11-point for affiliation. Please include the e-mail address of at least the principal author. This information is to be followed by about 0.25 inches.
The ABSTRACT and MAIN TEXT are to be in a two-column format except for equations, figures, or other special text that must span two columns.
The ABSTRACT is to be in fully-justified italicized text, at the top of the left-hand column, below the author and affiliation information. Use the word “Abstract” as the title, in 12-point Times, boldface type, centered relative to the column, initially capitalized. The abstract is to be in 10-point, single-spaced italic type. After the Abstract, begin the main text.
MAIN TEXT. Type main text in 10-point Times, single-spaced, fully justified. All paragraphs should be indented 0.2 inches. Do not place any additional blank lines between paragraphs.
FIRST-ORDER HEADINGS. (For example, 1. Introduction) should be Times 14-point boldface, initially capitalized, flush left, with one blank line before, and one blank line after.
SECOND-ORDER HEADINGS. (For example, 1.1. Database elements) should be Times 12-point boldface, initially capitalized, flush left, with one blank line before, and one after. If you require a third-order heading use 10-point Times, boldface, initially capitalized, flush left, preceded by one blank line, followed by a period and your text on the same line.
FIGURES AND TABLES. All figures and tables should be centered and preferably within the body of the manuscript. Photos may suffer in the printing process, so try to use high-contrast, coarse half-toning, and images without fine detail. Line drawings are encouraged when they communicate as well as half-tone photos. Use 10-point bold Times for captions.
REFERENCES. List all bibliographical references in 9-point Times, single-spaced, at the end of your paper. When referenced in the text, enclose the citation in parentheses, for example (Lastname 1999). The citation format is that of Computer Music Journal, and further examples can be found in CMJ and the paper templates.
COLOR. We regret that color can not be accommodated in the printed proceedings.
