RE: Downloading to R-6 unit using TSText 1.18.5 & GEMS 1.17.5 - very slow

We are using Socket LP-E.  See:

http://staff.gesn.com/lists/support.w3archive/200105/msg00096.html

Unfortunately you need access to the CE OS to set up the network card (IP address etc), and by popular demand, access to the OS is going away next release.  We can add explicit support for ethernet in the software, but I would rather see the effort directed at the root cause.  Namely:  lack of a dedicated download device, lack of mp3 compression on the audio and, downloading TSText stock audio even for databases which are not running VIBS.

Use your notebook over loopback if you got one.  I think everyone in the support group lucky enough to have access to a R6 will also be fortunate enough to have access to a notebook.

Is there a brand that has been tested so we know that it works.  If there has been, please post so these can be purchased.  If not does anyone have any recommendations for testing?

It's in the Ethernet PCMCIA card that you plug into the PCMCIA card slots on the right hand side of the unit behind the locked door!!!

(Must think beyond the box)

The English files in the new TSText account for about 7MB, and the Spanish about 4.8MB, largely due to the enormous stock audio files.  The size of these file groups should slow down your downloads, irrespective of the GEMS version.  Use a LAN (as opposed to serial) connection in order to significantly speed up your transmission.

I have upgraded to TSText 1.18.5, I am downloading to a R-6 unit using GEMS 1.17.4, and it is extremely slow in doing the download.  Is this to be expected, or should it go faster???  Will it go faster if I use GEMS 1.18???
