Tuk is a one year old girl, looking for a single-cat household. She weighs a healthy 11 pounds, is very friendly, loves being cuddled and is a non-stop purr machine. She is up-to-date on shots and vaccines. Please see Tuk's pictures below.
Tuk was a stray before we took her in on Friday, Jan 16, 2009, with the intentions of keeping her. Unfortunately, she has tested positive on the feline lukemia virus (FeLV) test. FeLV adversely affects the immune system of cats, and has no cure. FeLV-infected cats can potentially transmit the virus to other cats via bodily fluids (saliva, urine etc.). What this means is that Tuk cannot be kept in a house-hold that has other FeLV-negative cats (like ours). According to the vets, it would be ideal for Tuk to be either in:
Although Tuk is a carrier of the virus, it has not affected her health yet. She underwent a thorough vet check-up on Monday, Jan 19, 2009 and was given an all-clear certificate.
Please consider adopting Tuk, or at least fostering her until she finds a permanent home. We live in a very small apartment, and have been forced to quarantine Tuk in our bathroom, which is thankfully decent-sized. However, she will be much happier in a proper home!
We will also greatly appreciate any help in spreading the word about Tuk. One idea our friend gave is putting up a link to this webpage on your Facebook profile. Also consider posting this information on any newsgroups or bboards as appropriate.
