I am a postdoctoral Research Scientist at Oculus Research interested in computer graphics, facial animation, and perception.

Oculus Research Internships

If you are interested in internships at Oculus Research email me (auract-at-oculus.com). For the summer of 2015, I am looking for interns interested in projects on facial animation and human sensing (EMG, GSR, EEG).

Background

I completed my PhD in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in August 2014. My PhD thesis was on on perceptually valid facial animation. I was part of the Graphics Lab and my academic adviser is professor Jessica Hodgins. Part of my graduate training included how to be a research mouseketeer (Disney Research) and Jedi (Industrial Light and Magic).

I grew up in Romania, went to high school in Constanta by the Black Sea. In 2008 I graduated with a B.A. in computer science from Mount Holyoke College. Around graduation time, I spent several months at the Max Planck for Biological Cybernetics in Tuebingen, Germany as a visiting student/intern where I focused on improving virtual reality environments. I have also worked on, and am interested in, biomechanics and gait analysis.
