Recent Highlights
1. My paper, Hilbert Space Embedding of Hidden Markov Models, won Best Paper Award at International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2010).
2. Recently I proposed the framework of nonparametric probabilistic graphical models via kernels, which exceeds the-state-of-the-art in many applications such as time-series forecasting, cross-lingual document retrieval, and structured information prediction in citation networks.
Research Interests
I conduct research in statistical machine learning and data mining, with primary interests and skills in nonparametric kernel methods, probabilistic graphical models, time series and network analysis. I am also interested in large-scale and distributed learning problems, and machine learning applications in texts, images, networks and information rich social media.
Biography
I studied computer science at the South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China in 1998. After I obtained my Bachelor's degree in 2002, I traveled to Sydney, Australia. In 2004 I received my Master's degree, and in 2008 my Doctoral degree in computer science at the University of Sydney, Australia. I was also a PhD. student with the Statistical Machine Learning Program at NICTA. My thesis supervisor is Alex Smola who is now a principal researcher at Yahoo! Research.
