Abstract
The field of artificial intelligence is now 50 years old. One of our original goals was to build computer programs with the common sense of a five-year-old child, and we're still working on that. I will describe why this has turned out to be such a challenging problem, what key elements are still missing, and some ideas for how we can get there.
