2006 | Microsoft's Wearable camera incubation project.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with the Microsoft Research Cambridge team to support the sensecam project. SenseCam is a wearable digital camera that is designed to take photographs passively, without user intervention, while it is being worn. The idea was originally conceived by Lyndsay Williams and the research project is now supported by Steve Hodges and Ken Wood.
My role in the project was to come up with scenarios of use for the product in real life and to think about how the User Interface would support the sharing and editing of the data produced by a wearable camera that is continually capturing images.
As part of this project, we conducted extensive explorative user research to understand the possibilities and the issues that emerge when multiple users wear cameras that capture data constantly. We explored concepts of UI viewers for multiple users, where several people could post their sensecam images together in one "clip". Since the product of the sensecam is not a picture or a video clip, but something in between, the way in which editing is done is an interesting UI challenge.
