2003 | User Interface Design for Series 60 1st generation.

At Nokia there is a strong and well established UI design and specification process. The product management, development, localization and testing teams work together towards a common established goal in a highly collaborative environment.

In this project I was part of a team designing user interfaces for the Symbian OS based Series 60 mobile platform. Our goal was to port the Series 60 platform from GSM to CDMA. In order to achieve this goal, we had to adapt a number of core features to comply with the requirements of CDMA US carriers such as Sprint and Verizon. The Series 40 CDMA platform was used as a point of reference for this integration.

This role encompassed the implementation of carrier requirements into usable interface designs following a typical user-centered design process. The book "Mobile Usability" provides a good insight into the Nokia User Experience culture and its approach to product and user interface design. It also provides an overview of how the Nokia UI evolved over the years and it presents some of the standards established by Nokia, which became standards for the whole mobile industry.

In this role I was responsible for the design and specification of multiple features such as Phone Book, Settings, Sound Profiles, Call Logs and Voice Message Service.
