KIDD NAMED TOP PAC 10 PLAYER 3/11/94 Associated Press WALNUT CREEK: California's Jason Kidd, who has averaged 16.6 points a game and has had four double doubles this season, was named Pacific 10 player of the year. Stanford guard Brevin Knight, who averaged 11.8 points a game, was named freshman of the year and Arizona's coach Lute Olson repeated as coach of the year. Kidd, the Pac10 freshman of the year last season, was the first sophomore to be honored as player of the year since the award made its debut in 1976. This season, the guard is averaging 6.8 rebounds and 9.3 assists a game. Knight is the second Stanford athlete to gain Pac10 freshman of the year honors since the award started in 1984. John Revelli of Stanford won in 1981. Knight is averaging 11.8 points a game and ranks second in the conference in steals with an average of 2.9 a game. Olson took the honor for the fifth time in his 11 year career at Tucson. The All Pac 10 team was selected by a vote of conference coaches. Besides Kidd, the rest of the team announced on Friday are: Mario Bennett, Arizona State; Tyus Edney, UCLA; Lamond Murray, California; Ed O'Bannon, UCLA; Lorenzo Orr, Southern California; Khalid Reeves, Arizona; Stevin Smith, Arizona State; Damon Stoudamire, Arizona; and Orlando Williams, Oregon. ''I couldn't have done it without my teammates.''
