Assistant Professor
Stony Brook University, Computer Science

About me

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University.

My research interests are broadly in data mining, graph mining, machine learning, and social media analysis. I primarily focus on pattern mining, anomaly and event detection in large, time-varying graphs using scalable algorithms and tools.

For recent projects, see our DATA Lab group page.

Research interests

  • Large-scale graph mining

  • Anomaly, event, and fraud detection

  • Applied machine learning

  • Social and information media analysis

  • Recommender systems

I got my Ph.D. from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University in Aug. 2012 (I defended this).
I was extremely fortunate to have Prof. Christos Faloutsos as my Ph.D. advisor. During my doctoral studies, I also worked at IBM T. J. Watson Research Labs (two summers) and Microsoft Research at Redmond (one summer).
I hold a B.S. in Computer Science from Bilkent University, where I was fortunate to be advised by Prof. Ozgur Ulusoy.
