Twenty-six students in the Andrew's Leap Class of 2008 completed this summer enrichment program. Through advanced classes, seminars and individual research, the students were exposed to the frontiers of computer science and leading edge science.

SCS Professors Featured in “NextWorld” Series on Discovery Channel! An episode of the Discovery Channel’s “NextWorld” series featuring James Kuffner, assistant professor of robotics, and Seth Goldstein, associate professor of computer science, is now scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Aug. 27. The episode, titled “Future Intelligence,” originally was to premier Aug. 13, but was bumped because of coverage of the Beijing Olympics. Read more

Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, will accept the first Randy Pausch Prize from Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) and present the keynote address at the 7th International Conference on Entertainment Computing (ICEC) on Sept. 26. Carnegie Mellon System, "Perspectives", Thwarts Internet Eavesdropping! The new system, available as a free download for the popular Mozilla Firefox v3 browser, was developed by researchers David Andersen, assistant professor of computer science, Adrian Perrig, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and public policy, and Dan Wendlandt, a Ph.D. student in computer science. Johnny Lee, whose creative uses of the Nintendo Wii remote have made his instructional videos a YouTube sensation, has been recognized by Technology Review magazine as one of the world’s top 35 innovators under the age of 35. Lee, 28, received his Ph.D. from the Human-Computer Interaction Institute of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science this spring and is now working as a researcher in Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group.
