Jimmy Martin documentary to be released
George Goehl is working on a documentary about Jimmy Martin called
King of Bluegrass. It should be interesting--as George says
on his web page:
I first talked to Jimmy about the idea of a film in November of
1999. We started shooting in March of 2000 and have spent over 2
years accompanying Jimmy on tour, backstage, onstage as filming him
feeding his animals, hunting squirrel, and just tooling around
Tennessee. We have also interviewed Tom T. Hall, Ralph Stanley,
Marty Stuart, Paul Williams, JD Crowe, Bill Emerson and James King.
The film will be completed in September of 2002 and then entered into
film festivals worldwide.
"My Home Ain't In the Hall of Fame" released on CD
"My Home Ain't In the Hall of Fame" has been released on CD by
Rounder
. The rumor is that "You Can Share My Blanket" is
in the works for CD re-release.
Changes in the New South (from Phil Ledbetter):
I would like to announce to make it official that Myself, Robert Hale, Curt Chapman and Darrell Webb will be leaving J.D at the end of this year to perform fulltime as Wildfire. Barry Crabtree will be playing banjo.
We have all talked to J.D about this, and it is a peaceful split. I will continue to book Crowe as well as Wildfire. J.D has NO PLANS to retire or slow down. He will be reforming the band with some great players. Some of them former NS members. J.D always strives for perfection, and I know the new version of the NS will be top notch.
I've been with J.D for 11 years, and its time to try something new. I think it is good for us, and good for J.D as well. J.D is very cool with everything. The best way to go is as friends. J.D is like family to me, and always will be. He has always been a icon in my eyes in this music. I never thought I would ever get the chance to play with J.D Crowe. It seems very strange now that I am saying "so long". 11 years is a long time in this business. You don't stay with a man that long unless he is a good one........J.D is. A good friend, a great picker.......A good person. We will all miss working with him.
