    some times it's for self presentation
    failure in personalization of the experience can lead the user to  blame

    Customization is even better if the user doesn't even know

    Personalize without explicit customization is good BUT
        completely transparent customization can be bad because you don't  know
how to fix problem when it comes up
        software is also very soft and hard to tell what personalizations  are
happening
