Mac Mail:

  • Once the account has been created (following the steps on the previous page), open Mail and click "Mail", then "Preferences":

  • Click the "Server Settings" button under the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" section:

  • Next, change the "Server port" to "587", then check the box next to "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)". Change the "Authentication" type to "Password", then enter your SCS email username and password:

  • Click "OK", then close the "Accounts" window - you should be prompted that the settings have changed. Click "Save", then close and restart Mail.

You will now be able to send mail to non-cs.cmu.edu email addresses from an off-campus connection.
