Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Information

Microsoft has released Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. According to Microsoft article 322389, this Service Pack installs all previously released security updates and hotfixes as well as several new features and component upgrades.

While the security updates contained in SP3 have already been tested and distributed by SCS Facilities, the hot fixes, which are patches unrelated to security, have not been tested by SCS Computing Facilities. Also, the new features and upgrades introduced by SP3 been not been fully evaluated and tested by our Engineers.

The new features should have no effect on computers within our environment and we do not expect users to experience problems SP3.

However, because of the large number of hot fixes and component upgrades, SCS Computing Facilities does not currently recommend that users install SP3. We recommend that users allow SCS Facilities to deploy SP3 after testing and evaluation.
