Printer Setup for Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard), v10.7 (Lion), and v10.8 (Mountain Lion)

Initial Printer Setup

(The initial printer setup needs to be done once.)

In order to print on OS X v10.6, v10.7, and v10.8 the following steps should be taken:

  1. Open SYSTEM PREFERENCES in Applications.
  2. Click on ACCOUNTS (v10.6) or USERS & GROUPS (v10.7 & v10.8) under the System subcategory.
  3. Click on LOGIN OPTIONS, then on the JOIN button. If you already have a network account server set up it will say Edit instead of Join.
  4. Enter osx.srv.cs.cmu.edu for the server and press the OK button. You may be prompted for the administration password.

Installing Printers

In order to install a printer the following steps should be taken:
  1. Open SYSTEM PREFERENCES in Applications.
  2. Click on PRINT & FAX under the Hardware heading.
  3. Click on + (the plus button) to add a new printer.
  4. Select the name of the desired printer from the list of Open Directory printers in the list that appears.
  5. The Installable Options screen will appear once you have added the printer. Check the Duplex Unit box for duplex printers.
  6. Click on Continue.
