July 2014 Critical Windows, Office, and Adobe patches

July 10, 2014

On July 8, 2014, Microsoft released critical patches for Windows and Adobe released critical patches for Flash Player and AIR. Patches have also recently been released for Office 2011 for Mac.

* All Windows PCs must be patched. *

To patch your PC:

Click on the update icon on the taskbar. It is a globe or yellow shield with an exclamation point, depending on which version of Windows you're running.

If you do not have such an icon, run Windows Update by going to the site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

After patching, you must reboot your PC in order for the patches to take effect.

If you have installed Microsoft Service Bus, see:

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms14-042

for information about a patch for a denial of service vulnerability.

Adobe Flash Player patches:

If you are running Flash Player version 13.0.0.214 or earlier on a Windows PC or a Mac, or version 11.2.202.359 or earlier on Linux, you should upgrade. To see which version of Flash you are running, visit:

https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

If you are using the Flash Player that is installed with Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer 10 or 11, your version of Flash on that browser will be updated automatically.

To upgrade Flash if you are not using one of the above browsers, download it from:

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Each browser that you use to view Flash content will need to be updated.

If you use Adobe AIR, see:

https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-16.html

for update information.

Please contact help@cs.cmu.edu or call the SCS Help Desk (x8-4231) if you have questions or problems with applying these patches.
