SCS Computing Support for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for Desktops

SCS Computing Facilities announces the addition of Linux support for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for 64 bit desktops.

LIFECYCLE:

Following the vendor's support cycle, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be supported on SCS desktops until April, 2021.

HOW TO REQUEST Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:

If you would like to have your desktop installed with or upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, please complete the Search/Update/Remove equipment request form at

Please note that Ubuntu's "dist-upgrade" mechanism is not a supported method for upgrading an existing SCS Computing-supported 14.04 desktop to 16.04.)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Ubunntu 16.04 LTS is supported on all recommended desktop PC hardware (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/purchasing/recommended_pcs.html).
