[Support Status] iPass - End of Support 7/31/17

Effective: July 31, 2017

For many years, SCS Computing Facilities (SCSCF) has offered users access to iPass, a global roaming wireless Internet service provider. After an in-depth evaluation of the iPass service offering, we have found that (1) the current SCS offering is expensive, (2) unlike when we began offering iPass in 2003, there are now several comparable services available, and (3) iPass is only used by a small minority of SCS users. Based on these findings SCSCF will decommission the SCS iPass service on July 31, 2017.

Going forward, SCSCF is not planning to establish a direct relationship with any wireless Internet service provider. For users who still require a global roaming provider, we recommend that you begin by considering Boingo or GOGO.

If you have iPass software on your computer, removal instructions are available on the SCS Computing help pages at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/networking/removeipass.html.

Please contact the SCS Help Desk at x8-4231 or send mail to help@cs.cmu.edu with any questions or concerns regarding this change.
