Attn: Web Server Administrators: Information about WebISO Authentication Replacement

On August 1, 2013, CMU Computing Services will decommission the Andrew Pubcookie-based web authentication service.

IF YOU ARE A WEB SERVER ADMINISTRATOR:

If you are the administrator of a Web server that currently uses the Andrew Pubcookie service, you have two choices:

1. Convert your server to use the Computing Services Shibboleth service. This service allows authentication for both SCS and Andrew accounts.

2. Convert your server to use the SCS Computing Facilities WebISO service. This service only allows authentication for SCS accounts.

More information about Shibboleth can be found at:https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/web_publishing/shibboleth.html

More information about CMU web authentication services can be found at:https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/web_publishing/web_auth_overview.html

IF YOU USE PUBCOOKIE TO PROTECT CONTENT ON WWW.CS.CMU.EDU:

If you use Pubcookie/WebISO to protect web pages in CS AFS space that are served by www.cs.cmu.edu (e.g. ~user or project sites), you do not have to do anything. SCS Computing Facilities will be making changes to the www.cs.cmu.edu web servers on July 22, 2013 that will allow existing .htaccess files to work with the Shibboleth service.

Thank you for your attention,
